Rep/Select FAQ
FAQ for Rep/Select/Elite tryouts for the 2025 Season
1. What is the difference between Select, Rep and Elite?
Select, Rep and Elite are all competitive leagues at different levels.
Select is not as competitive as Rep, but is designed as stepping stone from House League into a more competitive baseball style. Players on the Select team do not play on a house league team. You should expect your child to have one practice during the week and play games during the week and on the weekends. There may also be 2-4 tournaments a year depending on the schedule the coach chooses. Tournaments can be in a number of locations such as Aurora, Markham, Mississauga etc or as far as London or Niagara Falls. Teams are able to choose which tournaments they want to enter and how far they want to travel.
Mansfield currently has 1 Select team planned for the 2025 season.
Rep is a more competitive league. Players on these teams do not play in House League. You should expect your child to have one or two practices each week and one or two games per week which usually fall on the weekend as doubleheaders. Teams also play in 2-4 weekend tournaments per season plus 1-2 playoff tournaments. Tournaments can be in a number of locations such as Aurora, Markham, Mississauga etc or as far as London or Niagara Falls. Teams are able to choose which tournaments they want to enter and how far they want to travel.
Mansfield currently has 3 Rep teams planned for the 2025 season.
Elite is only offered at the (15U), (16U), (17U/18U) levels. These players do not play in House League or Rep. This league is exactly what the name represents - an Elite League. This is a highly competitive league that features the top teams and players throughout Ontario. Visit Elite Baseball Ontario for more information.
Mansfield does not have any Elite teams for the 2025 season

3. Where and when are the tryouts?
Tryouts dates , times and locations will be posted late August\early September after coaches are selected. Rep Tryouts will take place first with Select tryouts held following the rep tryouts (where teams at the same age group are offered). A schedule for the tryouts will be posted on the website when available.
4. Do I have to pre-register for tryouts?
A registration page for tryouts is available under the Registration tab on the main website. You must pre-register for tryouts. Walk up registrations will not be accepted.
5. What are the fees to tryout?
There is a one time fee of $10. This will cover all tryout dates. This fee must be paid via etransfer to
[email protected] prior to the first tryout. If you cannot do an etransfer you must contact
[email protected] to arrange payment prior to the first tryout.
6. How many of the tryout dates and times must my child attend?
The Mansfield Minor Baseball Association requires that each child must attend a minimum of two of the tryouts - however we encourage you to attend all the dates if possible. If you are unable to make it to all the tryout dates, discuss this individually with the coach at the first tryout you attend. Each coach has a format that they follow for their tryouts and may make cuts after each date or may wait until all tryouts are complete before making cuts.
7. How many games, practices, tournaments will my child have if he makes the team?
These types of questions are division and age specific. Each coach decides how many practices per week and how many tournaments he wants to enter his team in for the year. You will be able to ask the coach these types of questions at the tryouts.
8. What are the fees required if my child makes the team?
Each player must pay their MMBA membership fee for their division as per the fee structure determined in late fall. This cost covers your MMBA membership fee, YSBA and OBA membership fees, diamond fees and player insurance. You will also have to pay Team fee as set by the coach/MMBA Treasurer (this includes indoor workout fees, tournament fees, equipment fees, uniforms, coach certification, etc.). On average you should expect to pay between $500 and $1000 for the year (plus travel expenses to away tournaments) . This amount may be higher or lower depending on how many tournaments your team attends, if the team purchases matching bags and helmets etc, and if the team has indoor workouts at a school gym or a private facility. This may be offset by any team fundraising or sponsorship.
A breakdown of the 2025 Rep fees will be provided at a later date. The coach will typically have a preliminary\sample budget available for each division at the first tryout date.
